"Champion Versions"

Postby rich amino » Wed Jan 06, 2010 2:06 pm

hello - i recently acquired a copy of 'champion versions', which was nice, and the guy i got it from spun me a yarn about it never being available in the shops, only through the band, and steve m having given him this version. it got me wondering what the story was, because i'm a bit like that with records, but i can't find anything about pressing quantities, availablilty etc etc on 'the internet'.

anybody know what the deal was ? its a real unexpected pleasure to have it.

also, did the original have a picture inner sleeve ? mine doesn't....

as you were

not sure about the availabilty, but i've seen the number 500 tossed around on these boards before.

i actually picked up a copy off ebay this past year, and the inner sleeve didn't have a picture on it. also, the outer sleeve on mine also feels like it's made out of the thinnest cardboard possible.

this is a great website that lists all ebay auctions for particular vinyl.

http://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch. ... d=&thumbs=

all the pictures that show the inner sleeve show it as plain white.

i bought the three of them on ebay...for about £120...even though i don't have a functioning record player.

i just look at them...

(sad bastard... )

the seller threw in the two issues of flower press as well, was a pleasant surprise!

It certainly was available in the shops, and i've heard the figure 500 bandied about also.

I got mine from a small indie shop in Weston Super Mare (got all my 3 eps there as they came out, got patty patty and los amigos on cd too)

It's the red tiger head cover with no inner sleeve. Don't think any had inner sleeves, as I recall, would have to have a look.

Mines not in great nick now, but cherished all the same.

I've never seen a copy go for more than £150. £500 is wishful thinking...

SHAMELESS PLUG - i'm selling my copy of Champion Versions on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... _500wt_996

Cheers for buying it. I don't have the other two, alas.

I should have it in the post on Tuesday - just need to locate the appropriate packaging materials so's it wont get bent in the post.

i'm amazed anyone could sell such a perfect record, but glad they do.

on the subject of beta records, a friend of mine just picked up the first KBT 12 for £5.50 on eBay - total steal. probably cost me almost that new at the time.

Haven't logged on to this forum for ages ... shame to see it over-run with spam .. what's going on?

Back to the subject -- I used to be pretty clued up on catalogue numbers and quantities on the Betas discography... it's been a while. Is this info not lurking on betaband.com somewhere?

I think there was 1000 (or 1500) of Champion Versions - minus 3 copies that John cut up and used in scrapbooks etc.
I'm pretty sure it was more than 500.

I bought a copy off eBay a few years ago as a Xmas present to myself (for about £50), and have it framed on my wall :)

Fun trivia, the images on the cover come from French fireworks/bangers (le tigre petards I think they're called?)
